Monteverde

Home to Costa Rica's first nature reserve and some of the largest swaths of pristine Cloud Forest on Earth, the mountains of Monteverde are a popular destination for hikers, birders, and connoisseurs of fine coffee.

High and cool in the mountains, Monteverde gets less rain but lots of fog, creating an atmosphere or almost primeval serenity. Massive trees shrouded in moss and vines emerge from the mist and sway in the wind. A truly incredible variety of birds call and swoop between the branches. And in the surrounding valleys and hills families grow some of the best coffee you can find.
